Mandarin Oriental, Munich 

Our stay at Mandarin Oriental, Munich was exceptional from beginning to end. The hotel is beautiful, the location in the heart of Old Town could not be better, and the level of service throughout our stay was exactly what one hopes to find at a hotel of this caliber. What truly distinguished the experience, however, was the staff — particularly Aaron at the front desk. Aaron exemplifies excellence in hospitality. I asked him for assistance printing train tickets for a day trip, and he noticed that I had four tickets despite only three of us traveling. He politely inquired, without ever being intrusive, and I explained that my wife had unexpectedly needed to cancel her trip because our son had broken his foot back home. I happened to mention that I had been having difficulty canceling her refundable train ticket. From there, Aaron took it upon himself to help. He contacted the train company on my behalf, navigated the cancellation issue, and even identified better fares for the three of us who were still traveling. What began as a simple request to print tickets became a perfect example of thoughtful, proactive service. It would have been entirely reasonable for Aaron simply to point me in the right direction. Instead, he took ownership of the problem and found a solution. That kind of intuitive hospitality is increasingly rare and deserves to be recognized. His exceptional service extended throughout our stay. Despite the hotel having been fully committed the evening before our arrival, Aaron worked to accommodate an earlier check-in and took wonderful care of the rooms for everyone in our party. He was gracious, polished, thoughtful and genuinely interested in making our time in Munich as seamless as possible. That standard carried throughout the hotel. Housekeeping was impeccable, with an extraordinary attention to detail each day. The team at Ory was equally impressive, and Sansa in particular made several visits memorable. Sansa introduced me to what quickly became my favorite cocktail of the trip — the Pretzel Old Fashioned — and even took the time to explain the drink and its preparation. The rooftop deserves special mention as well. It is simply spectacular. The views, atmosphere and setting make it one of the most memorable places to spend an afternoon or evening in Munich. A beautiful property can make for a wonderful stay, but truly exceptional people are what make you want to return. Aaron, Sansa and the entire team at Mandarin Oriental, Munich delivered hospitality at the highest level. For me, this is the best hotel in Munich: an extraordinary staff, a remarkable location in Old Town, and a level of service that makes the experience feel genuinely personal. I would not hesitate to return.
