Hotel am Hoken 

This is a genuinely lovely and lovable romantic hotel right in the middle of a drop-dead gorgeous town that has more ridiculously photogenic half-timbered houses than you can shake a stick at. No, it’s not suitable for everyone – there probably isn’t a single 90-degree angle anywhere in the property, the floors slope and creak, there are no elevators, and the stairs are quite steep – but if you know all this in advance and go with the flow, it’s a sheer delight. We were in Room 7, which was effectively a suite, in that it had a separate living room with its own TV and an antique escritoire. The bathroom worked admirably – a tribute to whomever renovated this elderly building. The staff – all women, I think - were wonderfully friendly, although there was not a lot of English being spoken. Breakfast was a delight – in fact EVERYTHING was a delight. Furthermore, the hotel has rented parking spaces from another establishment, so parking was not a big issue, although the picture-postcard centre of Quedlinburg (did I already say it was a feast for the eyes?) is pretty much off-limits for vehicles. Strongly recommended, with obvious reservations that you should know what you are getting into.
