Excellent
The hotel facilities themselves are excellent, comfortable, and fully consistent with what one would expect from a 4-star property. Unfortunately, however, our experience with the service significantly affected our overall impression of the stay. During our stay - 6 days, we had very positive experiences with several members of staff, particularly Latin American employees, who were consistently courteous, attentive, and genuinely made an effort to provide good service. In contrast, in some interactions with Italian staff members, we experienced an attitude that came across as superior, dismissive, and unwilling to listen to the guest — an attitude that simply does not belong in hospitality. The most serious incident occurred at the Front Desk. After staying at the hotel for almost a week and having water provided in our room every day, we requested water one evening during an exceptionally hot period in Milan while travelling with a young child. We were told that we should go downstairs to the gym and get the water ourselves. The issue was never the cost of the water. The issue was how such a simple request was handled. During the telephone conversation, the Front Desk employee progressively raised her voice and eventually shouted at me. I then went downstairs personally to the reception desk to try to discuss the situation calmly and understand why such a minor request had escalated in this way. Instead, she effectively refused to engage in a normal conversation and returned her attention to her computer. I subsequently reported the incident formally to hotel management. I received an apology and was informed that the matter would be reviewed internally. However, after I sent a detailed response explaining why the employee’s conduct was the real concern — rather than the hotel’s water policy — I did not receive an adequate follow-up. To make the situation even more contradictory, at check-out they still attempted to charge us for the water. Again, this was never about paying or not paying for a bottle of water. It is about common sense, hospitality, and respect. It is difficult to understand how, in a 4-star hotel, such a basic request can result in a guest being told to go to the gym to get drinking water, being shouted at by a Front Desk employee, and then having the incident essentially disregarded. A hotel can have excellent rooms and beautiful facilities, but hospitality is ultimately about how people are treated. Unfortunately, the arrogance and lack of professionalism demonstrated by some members of staff were enough to damage what, based on the quality of the property itself, could otherwise have been an excellent experience.
