Fonda Restaurant Ca l'Abel 

What a fantastic experience. We were in the area as part of a trekking excursion in the Pyrenees. We didn't know what to expect, but were so pleasantly surprised to arrive at this charming property with its exceptional hosts. Ca L'Abel is rural, and in a small village in Cerdanya on a winding road. It is rustic in all the best ways. We were greeted by the host, Toni. Though we arrived after the restaurant's operating hours, Toni graciously agreed to cook us an incredible homemade meal composed of fresh bread, grilled octopus, homemade gazpacho (best I've had), a zucchini carpaccio with walnuts, goat cheese and honey, and a homemade lime mousse. We've been eating our way across Italy, France and Spain for the past 5 weeks, and this is one of the top 3 meals we've had anywhere (and we've eaten at some very nice places). Similarly, we had the pleasure of eating breakfast at Ca L'Abel this morning, where the hosts prepared fresh bread and croissants, jam, and a delicious omelette. In fact, when we asked the host where we could buy bread in the morning to have a snack on the road, he offered to bake us some (and did!). If you are looking to unwind in an idyllic setting and have some incredible food, don't miss this place.
