Gasthaus Rebstock 

The hotel is actually in Upper Simonswald (Obersimonswald) and not Simonswald proper. Nice rustic setting. Beautiful, clean and well kept. Even has a huge cuckoo clock made by Anton Schneider Söhne in the dining room. The staff is very friendly, Katrin and her brother Mikhail speak very good English and so does their staff member. The food is delicious and well made. The breakfast is huge and will fill you up quite well. The rooms, bathrooms and hallways are very clean and the beds are comfortable. I drink a lot of water and the staff was always pleased to give me a jugful of water with ice each night. Knowing that I am interested in organs and clocks, Mikhail took me for a tour of the Trenkle cuckoo clock factory and when I was to leave he gifted a cuckoo call pipe he made to my toddler daughter. Although the parents did not speak English, I enjoyed communicating with them a bit in sign language. Katrin and Mikhail also introduced me to another German guest family who stayed there to visit the Waldkirch Organ Festival with whom I became good friends with. While leaving Katrin gave me some homemade jam to take with me. The only piece of advice if you want to have sound sleep is to bring some earplugs and close all the windows at night as the town church bell goes off every hour and also several times at 6:00 a.m. even on weekends.
