Lovely accommodation set in a very scenic location. Site in charge was very helpful and accommodating clean premises and very well equipped property.

Tim the host was brilliant,  the double room en suite was great, breakfast was good. We would stay there again.  Only one minor criticism was that the property was hedged in, so no views.

Boutique style B&B in tranquil location overlooking the river Exe. A ten minute walk from the Puffing Billy pub from where you can walk along the River Exe Trail south to Exmouth and return via the train for a pleasant day out. The trail also goes north towards Topsham which takes around 20 minutes on foot where you can experience the sunset from the bars / restaurants on the riverside

We had a very large room with large en-suite shower room and patio doors to an outside seating area. Apart from that we virtually had the run of the entire ground floor including breakfast sitting room with another TV and a utility room equipped with tea and coffee making facilities etc. Wonderful fairly remote spot beside the River Exe and an excellent host.

We really enjoyed our 3 nights at Riverdown. Tim was a fantastic host and there was more to the accommodation than we expected (eg use of a kitchen, with real milk, to make drinks and use of microwave). We were right next to the estuary, with lovely views and the walk/cycleway linking Exmouth and Exeter. Highly recommended, we genuinely hope to return.

Great place to stay. Very clean and lovely comfy bed.
2 bedrooms, 1 with en suite, 1 with sole use of a large bathroom. We had the en suite room.
Have use of the whole downstairs including kitchen to make drinks, make use of the fridge etc.
You get your own key to the front door so you can come and go as you please.
Great host, he knew i used to keep chickens so even gave me one of his own chickens free range eggs for breakfast.
Really hope your still doing it next year.

Great Place To Stay - Owner Brilliant

Recently spent five days in Devon primarily to look at areas to locate to next year but also to have a short relaxing break.  Decided to concentrate on towns on an estuary so chose the Riverdown Bed and Breakfast in Exton near Topsham and Exmouth as a base to explore.  So glad we did.  What a hidden gem.  The setting is beautiful with stunning views over the River Exe.  

On arrival we were warmly greeted by Tim, the owner who was very friendly, helpful and attentive.  
The whole of the ground floor is for the guests with only two rooms, a double ensuite and a twin/double with a separate large bathroom.  As the double ensuite was booked we stayed in the twin room which was big, comfortable and spotless.  The double ensuite has its own outside patio with a table and chairs but there is another table and chairs outside the lounge/dining room for guest use.  
Both rooms look out into a lovely garden.  

The lounge/dining room is a room which can be used by guests anytime of the day and there is access to the kitchen which has a fridge, microwave and tea/coffee making facilities.  Breakfast was served in the lounge/dining room and was very well cooked.  

We loved Topsham, in fact it would be a lovely place to live.  There are many nice cafes/restaurants here and a three storey antique centre at the quay.  The estuary is really picturesque and well worth a visit.  We spend many hours sitting at the quay side watching the boats go by.  Darts Farm shop nearby is also worth a visit as is Exmouth where you can book a boat trip.  Stuart Line Cruises have a wide range of trips around the beaches and coves as well as trips on the River Exe but book online early to avoid disappointment.  

There are many restaurants/pubs in the area but Tim recommended a village pub just up the road called the Puffin Billy.  As it was our wedding anniversary while we were there we decided to try it. The pub was very nice with friendly staff and good food.  There is also a nice outdoor area to enjoy drinks in the evening.  

This part of Devon is a wonderful place to visit and we are really pleased we found the Riverdown B and B.  We would highly recommend it as a place to stay for its superb location, home comforts, good breakfast, excellent value for money and an excellent host.

A hidden gem

A really lovely place to stay, spacious room with patio doors and own patio with table & chairs next to the Exe Estuary and use of a lovely sitting room and kitchen - perfect.  Great breakfasts from the owner Tim, a brilliant host who couldn't be more helpful.  Will definitely be going back.  Great for leaving the car and walks away from main roads and particularly for wildlife watching.  For a busy August with most places crammed this was a peaceful idyllic area with spectacular views of the Estuary around.

August break getaway

My wife and I booked a post lockdown stay here. There are two rooms, the owner is extremely covid 19 conscious and will only allow one room at a time to be used. There was an obvious overlap on our last night, however we did not come into contact with the other guests as breakfast was staggered by one hour. The room was very clean, the setting was beautiful, host was accommodating, breakfast enjoyable. If you enjoy cycling take or hire bikes, the bnb is in the middle of cycle route 2, very safe. Lovely pub called the Puffin Billy less than half a mile away. Also recommended. Would definitely recommend.

Peaceful

Tim our host was very welcoming our room was large and functional, breakfasts were good but we were disappointed that our room was not serviced, the only location in 2 weeks in Cornwall and Devon where we had to make our own beds. Dust on artificial flowers by the bedside also indicated that a good spring clean would not go astray. Regardless we would not hesitate to stay there again

Lovely location

Riverdown is a lovely place to stay for a quiet weekend break.  Nothing is too much trouble for the owner to sort for you.   Breakfast very good, pubs and restaurants in local area.   Close to beaches and Exeter.    Can be difficult to find but we'll worth the effort.  If down that way again will definitely stay there.

Great place for a quiet break

Lovely setting. Quiet location. Large room which was very comfortable, clean and beautifully kept. Bathroom with shower was a good size and again spotless and well kept. The room we had, had a patio outside with table and chairs. We had access to the kitchen to make drinks and keep few items in fridge. The lounge and dining area was one room which could be used at anytime of the day. Tim the owner was a very good host and gave us some good ideas for making the most of our time here and exploring. We walked into topsham village which was a nice walk, and looked around a 3 storey antique centre. There are also some nice cafe/restaurants here too. The estuary is picturesque and well worth viewing. We also visited Exmouth and Beer lovely village with a super beach. We hired a beach hut for £10 for the whole day!! Lovely. The water is like tap water. And plenty of cafés and pubs. All in all, Beer was our favourite. Book your stay at Riverdown, you won't be disappointed, for comfort, location, good breakfast and excellent host!!
