Fabulous room and excellent breakfast. We can’t recommend this hotel enough. It is beautifully decorated and immaculately clean. Such a quirky old building has been updated to a very high standard whilst still retaining the charm of the original beams and uneven floors. The lit stove in the reception gave a warm welcome each time we entered. The staff were really lovely, friendly and helpful. A very relaxed stay, I hope we will be able to visit again.

Comfy bed, nice staff,  fire, jolly nice breakfast.  Bedroom a little cold, but hot waterbottles helped.

The Three Cocks Hotel is a truly special place — an independent, family-run gem where you can feel the passion and care in everything they do. Every detail has been thoughtfully considered, from the stunning interiors to the welcoming atmosphere that instantly makes you feel at home.The downstairs area is beautifully designed — perfect for unwinding by the fire with a drink after a day exploring. The receptionist was excellent: warm, professional, and genuinely helpful throughout our stay.Breakfast was outstanding, with quality ingredients and generous portions. The location couldn’t be better — close to both Brecon and Hay-on-Wye, making it ideal for exploring the area.Our room was immaculate, with a very comfortable bed and a lovely, well-designed bathroom. It’s clear that every aspect of this hotel has been created with care and attention to detail.A wonderful stay from start to finish — I can’t recommend The Three Cocks Hotel highly enough.

A very nice place to stay would highly recommend and plan to return on our next trip to wales.

It’s like the owners thought… ‘what would I like in a hotel?’ And did that. The whole experience felt like a home away from home yet a luxury and quaint experience which is wholly unique. We were welcomed by a smiley and friendly hostess and shown to our room. It was called the ‘cosy twin’ because it’s small and functional but cosy is accurate, way big enough for us two . Think two beds, desk, shelves plenty of room for my sister and I. The towels actually wrapped round the body and were soft, the shower was powerful and lovely. The beds were soft yet supportive and the duvets were warm. We couldn’t be happier with it. We love the decor too! There is a drawing room with music, a fire in the entry way, chess and other classic games dotted around and the finishing touches of jars of sweets around. There is a fridge with fresh milk and water in behind the reception desk which added a little bit of joy to the stay. We ordered breakfast, and in keeping with the whole experience, was delicious and catered for vegetarians. We just couldn’t be more relaxed and happy. The grounds are beautiful and the view from the window was lovely.
Thank you for an amazing stay and I can honestly say I will come here again and it’s the best experience we’ve had on a quick overnight trip!

Lyn made our stay so special! It's a beautifully decorated atmospheric place to stay, with much attention to detail. Although sadly no bar or restaurant at the property, the very helpful recommendations for local restaurants and kind service by Lyn were brilliant.

My second time staying at Three Cocks Hotel, and I'll be returning many times more. Its the perfect base for a road cycling trip of Brecon Beacon. Welcoming and attentive staff, clean and comfortable rooms, excellent shower, and a cracking breakfast !

Good points…Loved the staff and had excellent communication throughout the stay. The well fitted bathroom was spotless and the shower was great. You have to pre-order breakfast the night before but it is hot and well cooked. The lady serving breakfast was excellent. Nice areas to sit downstairs and chat. The age of the building means it is quirky and interesting. It has been renovated very sympathetically. Bad points…The bedroom was very small and the two single beds were placed end to end so felt like a school trip. No wardrobe in the room just some pegs over a shelf and I struggled to use the mirror which was propped up on the desk. No room at all to put our cases. There are no staff in the hotel if you arrive after they leave in the early evening so you have to self check-in.  Instructions to locate your key and room are comprehensive but could put people off.

A hidden gem well worth the visit!

It is a lovely place, quite quirky but that work is in is favour. We had to self check in because the reception was closed but that wasn’t an issue as there were clear instructions including what we wanted for breakfast. The restaurant  was closed for refurbishment I think but the Old Barn is just across the road and serving good food for a reasonable price so no issues.Breakfast was nice too. Overall I would recommend. I would imagine it will be fantastic in the summer when the bat and restaurant is open and you can sit in the garden.

Very enjoyable stay.

Wonderful stay whilst we explored Hay on Wye for a few days which was a short drive away. Very comfortable and clean and lovely cooked breakfast although not much continental selection. Had an open fire inside the entrance where you could sit and relax. We managed to lock ourselves out of our room leaving the key inside and the property were contacted easily and they gave us a spare key to get back in. We would stay again.Only tip for staying is to book restaurants nearby and research in advance as we struggled on the Sunday to find somewhere for an evening meal lots of local places stop serving Sunday lunch at around 3-4pm. There is also a lovely garden centre with a restaurant a short distance from here.

Lovely stay whilst visiting Hay on Wye

I chose this hotel as my husband and I had booked the nearby Dark Sky stargazing experience. The moment we pulled up to the Three Cocks, I could tell I would love it. I adore historical buildings and this hotel was built over 500 years ago! Despite this, the interior was spotlessly clean, warm and inviting. We were greeted by the owners and shown our room. I loved going up the stairs via an original door!  If doors could speak…I’d love to know just how many people have passed that doorway over the centuries! 
The room was very spacious with a gorgeous interior design, and an enormous bed! My husband is 6’5” but even his feet didn’t touch the end of the  bed. We had such a good night’s sleep.  We enjoyed a bottle of wine sat next to the log burning fire after our stargazing and soon warmed up. I also enjoyed a particularly deep bath in the morning before enjoying an excellent breakfast. We are vegans and it was delicious. Oat milk was provided for us to take up to our room too so we could enjoy a coffee first thing. It really was such an enjoyable stay.

A fabulous experience!

We had an excellent stay at the Three Cocks Hotel. The hotel is very well furnished, exceptionally clean, super comfortable, and cosy. Jessica and the team were very helpful and accommodating - the breakfast was lovely.Location-wise it was perfect to get into Hay-on-Wye by car and taxi (but do book ahead of time).

The B&B was a last minute booking to break a journey up. So glad we selected this property.The house was very well presented. Rooms had everything you could need including plenty of space. We opted for breakfast and that was excellent value.Despite the property being located next to a busy main road it was really well insulated for sound with very little to no disturbance.The area had lots of routes and walks plus the pub opposite was really hospitable for an evening meal and drink.

A beautiful hotel with so much character and charm. No floor was straight and the walls thick with history!! Beautifully kept and decorated to a tasteful high standard. The welcome was warm. The team were helpful friendly and fun. Everything felt opulent and quirky. The breakfast was delicious. The sausage and bacon were a high quality meat. Cooked to perfection. Not too fatty ( which I hate). The coffee was a decent strength and seemingly endless ( a little like this review ?!!). One thing I’d change a nearby evening meal but if fairness Hay is only a 5 min drive away.Only fault was …. Where’s the ghost ?!! Didn’t see one and the 3 Cocks must be haunted !!!! Loved it there and will be returning and recommending to others
