My mum and I have been staying here 15 years every year with the Voits at the Sporthotel - it's perfect for the Wagner Festival at Bayreuth (about 35 mins by car), rooms are simple but large, good wifi, nice pool and quick access to the walking trails around the Ochsenkopf (mountain) where you can also ski in the winter - Voit runs a decent kitchen - try his Schnitzel and his Trout, the breakfast buffet is friendly and well stocked - they will fry you eggs on request. It's a calm, friendly and restful place run by people who love their land and their business and treat you like guests in their home. Prices are reasonable too - perfect for a week of Opera, walking and eating.
