My wife and I were planning on staying here for the weekend as we were visiting friends in Herford. Unfortunately we managed to get thrown out of the hotel before setting foot in it. This is a record for me as have never been banned from anywhere in the past ( and I have been on some very festive rugby tours and boys holidays), never mind before setting foot in the actual building!

The issue seemed to be car parking, which is tight at the hotel. We drove through the carpark and found no space, and non on the street behind the hotel. So we turned round and came back in. Someone pulled out of a space that was closest to the hotel, so we pulled in once they pulled out. 

Just as we stopped and man in a van (it always is, isnt it?) was waving his hands at us in an agressive manner, and it transpires he thought he couldn't get through the gap (he could). So we pulled out, reversed back and let him through, and pulled back in. He then came up and shouted in our faces that we couldn't park there and we asked why as we had pulled into where someone else had just left, but he continued to rant saying we couldn't park there as people couldn't get through. Just then a Large 4X4 offroader drove straight through the gap! I pointed this out but the person continued to shout at us in a mix of German and English saying he was the "chief" and or "director" of the hotel. We said we couldn't care less and that we wouldn't be shouted like that, we were guests of the hotel etc, I only have one leg and what was his issue. 

He wanted for us to block other park cars in and give the key in. Given our hire car insurance doesnt cover this, we refused. He then shouted filthy insults at us in German  (my wife speaks quite good German actually not that we would let on so we knew what he said and they are not for repeating here). We again asked not to be shouted at in German. He carried on with a few more insults and then stormed off. 

My wife said no matter what, as guest we should not be treated like that and that she didn't want to stay here. I said fine, we will get a new hotel. She said lets go and do the polite thing and tell them we wouldn't be paying. My wife goes throught the door and before she can get in the "chief" shouts at her, "get out, get out" and storms towards her. She left. 

So as a review of the hotel this is poor, but not a bad story though. We found a much nicer hotel up the road and suggest you dont stay here as the manager makes Basil Fawlty look reasonable.
