Klosterpensionen

Lovely place tucked along a side street but close to everything. The owner is so kind and helped us with bags and made a great homemade breakfast for us in the morning. He also gave us some suggestions for our walking route along the Haervejen the next day so that we could stop and see the beautiful tapestry at Sondermarkskirken. We had lots of space and use of a kitchen. The rooms were good sized and two shared baths were available to us.

I visited Viborg for a business trip. Before starting the trip, I have choosen Klosterpensionen mainly because of it's perfect central location right in the middle of the historic city. This turned out to be the right choice! Everything is in close walking distance but nevertheless the place is very quiet due to it's location in a small side alley. I choosed a suite in the ground floor. It was spacious and furnished in a cosy "private appartment" style. The host, Mr. Brandstrup is very friendly and dedicated to make his guests have a comfortable stay. He is preparing a really exceptional breakfast with lots of delicious things, some of them homemade. Breakfast is served for all guests in common on a large table in the cosy breakfast room. With this kind of arrangement it's easy to get into interesting informal talks with the other guests. I enjoyed my two days stay very much and will definitely visit Mr. Brandstrup's Klosterpensionen again!

This pension is a cosy place to stay in the old centre off Viborg in a quite errea with all the facilities in the serounding of this pension. The breakfast was also very good prepared with different type off bread and cheeses, marmelade, etc. Also yoghurt with cornflacces, mussli etc,

Yes, we had breakfast at Klosterpensionen, but actually we stayed over-night at Guesthouse Sct. Mogensgade 14, and these facilities collaborate. However, I couldn't find the guesthouse at Tripadvisor, so I make my review here. The guesthouse is formerly known as Nattely, but could not be found either. Nevertheless, we booked the room on the web, and got a door code by e-mail before arriving. The place does not have many rooms, but we were lucky to get a double room with its own bathroom. The booking information said that parking was available in the street just outside the house, and yes, 2-3 parking spaces were marked, but these were of course all taken, probably by residents living in the area. So when you have arrived by car using a GPS and you have to search for somewhere else to park in the old town where most of the streets are one-way, you are faced with a challenge. These conditions should have been stated and information given when announcing the place. But we managed to find a parking space, and easily found the room. Once inside the building we also found the room keys, and we were encouraged to put payment for our stay in a letterbox on top of the stairs. We never saw anybody attending the place, so the concept is based on trust, which is fair enough. The room had a good space, a window facing the quiet Sct. Mogens street, and its own bathroom. There was also a small kitchen with some utensils and equipment to prepare food, if you wanted. Wine and beer could also be bought by a self-service system. The facilities were clean and comfortable, and it had good and stable fee wifi. Sleeping quality was fine, and we were instructed to have breakfast in the Klosterpensionen, which should be pre-ordered. So we did, and were met by the friendly landlord at that place. After been asked what we wanted of coffee/tea and eggs etc. we were very well treated in the charming living room where the breakfast was served. All in all a pleasant stay at a reasonable price.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this place.  Our host, Sven-Henrik, really went out of his way to make us feel welcome, even arranging an extra-large bed so our party of two adults and two small toddlers had sufficient space (we don’t bother with cribs).  

Our room – a ground-floor suite – was spacious and well-appointed, though bathroom fittings and lighting took some getting used to and weren’t entirely reliable. But one expects a few quirks in a historic building.  Our room looked out on a pretty laneway one side, and a small balcony the other – be aware that if people choose to smoke out there (e.g. in the warmth of summer) while your windows are open, you’ll know it.  There is the possibility of parking in front but we easily found non-timed on-street parking nearby.  There are places to store/lock bikes securely.

Breakfasts were a jolly affair, with Sven-Henrik laying out an epic spread on an equally epic communal table – all manner of things, diverse and eclectic.  You’ll never leave the table hungry, that’s for sure.  It’s also a great way to meet other guests.  No-one was particularly fazed by our boisterous little ones, and somehow we managed not to break any of the lovely china upon which breakfast is served. Sven-Henrik has an interesting collection of LPs, equally interesting collection of books and a lot of curios and other interesting items in that room.  It’s all quite intriguing.

The location is fantastic – down a little laneway off a quaint square (complete with running well).  The town is pretty and has a historic core – and Klosterpensionen is right in the middle of it all.  Lots of lovely little parks and interesting buildings nearby – one doesn’t need to go far to feel lost in time.  There’s also a bike shop just up the street that rents great high-end bikes, and several nice forests on the outskirts of town.  

We thoroughly enjoyed everything about our stay at Klosterpensionen and can highly recommend both it and Viborg itself.  Sven-Henrik is a warm-hearted host who takes very genuine care of his guests.

We had a full day and a night at Klosterpensionen. The host was pleasant, the rooms were clean and the breakfast was nice. No noisy traffic, but plenty of birdsong from the surrounding trees. The town centre is 3 minutes stroll down the street.
