Didn't stay but had lunch in the courtyard and was very impressed.
The food was excellent and fairly priced. It had a very relaxing atmosphere which was perfect for us and our dog. The courtyard is shaded with trees so in the heat of the day it was a nice escape. If you are in beautiful Le Bugue give it a go.

We arrived on market day and sat out on the patio and had a coffee and watched the world go by. Also went again when not so busy. Didn't stay in the hotel but the garden was lovely.Enjoyed a walk through the town afterwards.

A nice little find.

GREAT COFFEE

We'd forgotten that le Bugue is fairly ordinary compared to other beautiful villages nearby. The food choices have been pre-made and then are heated up. That's OK. However, it would be good if the laminated picture cards showing the menu were wiped clean occasionally. Having said that, the Bergerac Rose was the best yet - a beautiful colour and rather like the New Zealand rose wines.

We didn't stay here but ate in the courtyard because we were desperate

Convenient, town centre hotel, not overpriced. Good bed and bathroom. Friendly reception, reasonably generous buffet breakfast, nothing special.
BUT: no lift, room on top floor was not convenient. No dedicated parking, just on the street: no major problem, except on Friday night because the market sets up there on Saturday. Carpets and paintwork tired. Staircase definitely showing its age.
It had that smell and appearance of a French town centre hotel of the type that was common when I travelled with my parents 50 years ago. I rather liked it!
It is the kind of place that is probably doomed to extinction, and that would be a pity. We should all do more to support this kind of place, and maybe enable the owners to put in some investment.

What French town centre hotels were like 50 years ago

The hotel is located in the centre of Le Bugue accepting tht the town centre is quite small. The rooms were small but clean and adequate. Our rooms overlooked the outdoor cafe area to the front of the hotel which was OK. Service was friendly though little English spoken. As they say cheap and cheerful!

You get wht you pay for

We stayed here for 2 nights in August with myself, partner and 10 month old baby.
The hotel itself is sufficient for what we wanted it for.. As a base to visit friends and just a place to rest our heads at night. However we asked for a travel cot for the baby which we did not receive despite asking a few times.. In the end we gave up and borrowed one from our friend. We also paid for breakfast... At 8 euros each it's not overly cheap for croissants and bread.. We also had to pay for breakfast for our 10 month old which I begrudged seeing as she would only have a brioche, so effectively I paid 16 euros for 2 brioches for the baby 😳😳
The bedrooms are basic but comfortable, however when booking I had requested to be on a lower floor due to having the baby, we were put on the top floor which was irritating but not the end of world as there is no lift in the hotel.

So overall if your looking for something basic and to just use as a base then this place is sufficient, don't expect much in the way of service especially if
Your English as they are quite dismissive of you (and my French is reasonable as I lived in France for 10 years) but even so they are rather lacklustre in their service.

It's sufficient

We arrived here for a nice spot of lunch and what we got, was far from it. We ordered two Croque Monsieurs (glorified cheese & ham sandwich) and two Panninis. The Croque Monsieurs were frozen in the middle! Frozen! I didn’t think it was possible to mess up a cheese and ham toastie but guess I was wrong. The two panninis were incinerated to within an inch of their life. Awful! There’s also no table service, everything has to be ordered at the till and for some weird reason, the drinks order is separate from the food. Very bizarre. Anyhow, if I found myself in this town again, I’d sooner starve.

Cafe De Frozen Cheese and Ham sandwich.

When there with wife and children tried to purchase some drinks in the cafe, checked with a waiter this was ok. Initially told ok, then when he went to seat us must have been given a message, or we failed some test, as he then turned round and just said ‘non’- meaning we won’t serve you. After repeating ‘non’ we realised they didn’t deserve our business and we walked out. No idea what the quality of the food or drinks is like- we didn’t get that far!

Rude. Avoid

What a shame a lovely courtyard setting for the café could be so disappointing. The staff were rude, the order was wrong and the food was well below average. The staff didn't seem to care if they had your order wrong, only brought out half of it or if you had any questions or concerns. Just very good at ignoring you. I am sure there are many other places to grab some lunch. Avoid here!

Rude Staff

Popped in for a quick snack and coffee, queued at the snack bar for 15 minutes for 2 croque monsieurs and some frites, then had to queue again at the bar to pay, another 5 minutes, then half way through taking my payment (she’d taken my money but not given me my change) the woman answered the phone and spent another 5 minutes taking a phone booking! Wouldn’t have minded if the food had been worth the wait. It wasn’t. It was disgusting. Croque monsieurs were frozen, defrosted in a microwave and bunged under the grill for a couple of minutes. Soggy, rubbery, and about as far from fresh as it’s possible to be. Who knew you could get a ham and cheese toastier so wrong?!
