we have been in ribe before and have seen this hotel before. Then we were thinging we need to test is.

Super cute and quaint. Very clean! The staff was so friendly and helpful, especially Jeppe.

This is a lovely little inn and staying in such a historic building was a great experience. I loved the wonky floors, low ceilings, antique furniture and art. It's also in a great location right on the main square, although this means it can be a little noisy outside. I thought the price was good value for money too. This is not the place to stay if you have any kind of mobility problem or you really care about privacy, though. The stairs are nearly vertical, more like a ladder than a staircase, and pretty challenging to get a suitcase up. Obviously, there's no lift, as it's a medieval building. And there is just one toilet and one shower shared between all guests, with the sink out on the landing, so you do come into a lot of contact with your neighbours at Weis Stue! The walls between the rooms are also very thin, so you can hear even if people are just talking normally. I didn't get a chance to eat in the restaurant downstairs, but it looks lovely. I would definitlely stay here again when I'm in Ribe.

We loved this place! As advertised, it’s several hundred years old, located in a city that is much older than that, across the street from a church founded around the year 800. Ribe is really marvelous, and the Weis Stue is a unique and ideally located spot to explore it. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The food is delicious. If you love history and want to feel a part of it, we highly recommend it.

Love the city! It was nice to stay at a place reflecting the style of the town. TV was not working though but the 2 main staffs were great and suave.

Central location, friendly staff, good beer garden. Old quaint pub accommodation good value for money.

If you love old, quaint and character filled accommodation and want to immerse yourself in history then this is the best place to do it.  We absolutely loved Weis Stue and would happily stay again.  The accommodation is best suited for those who love quirky and all the imperfections that come with a building that is a treasure.  Staff were wonderful and they served delicious food at the restaurant. Need to be able bodied to cope with the stairs.

The 1704 Weis Stu is a historic inn on the main square in Ribe. It is a halftimbered inn with restaurant on the ground floor and rooms on the 1st floor. Nothing like waking up to the cathedral bells tolling at 8 am each morning.

I liked the oldy Worldy feel of this place, the sloping floors were fun in the middle of the night, I also liked the price, but a bit of a pain to have to leave your room in middle of the night to take a leak, but hey it’s cheap.We also dined there and the food was really good, couldn’t eat all the ribs, it was a monstrous amount! 😁. Would I stay again…yes!

Weis Stue is a stunning inn - rustic and quirky, rich with local history, and the staff were lovely and perfectly hospitable. We ate in the restaurant two of our three nights there and each dish was delicious, with tasty beers from the local brewery. Each dining area was different with its own story, and absolutely loved the old stairwell and antique decor. The old town location was fantastic for walking to any site of interest. Our visit to Ribe was one of our top - if not the top - highlights of our European holiday. Fingers crossed we can stay again one day!!

Exactly as described. We were in room 4 overlooking the square. A few rooms shared the loo and shower room but there was never a queue and all was clean and respectful. The place is quirky, old and wonderful. We left our car 1km away at Lidl and just took overnight bags in. Dinner downstairs was excellent - huge portions, and a small dining room shared with 1 other couple and 2 singles.

A perfect slice of Danish history.

Weis Stue began as an inn hotel in 1704, and when you check into the rooms above the restaurant, you step back into time. You open your room door with a huge, old-fashioned metal key, and set it down on an old iron room stove repurposed into a lamp table. Some of original wood wall panels are still in place, coated with hundreds of years of paint, and if the furniture isn’t original, it at least appears to be very old (Mattresses are new and fresh, however). Out the window is a wonderful view of the old Viking town’s main market square and historic Ribe cathedral, built in 1150. 

That said, this is not an inn for divas: the (clean, modern) bath and shower are shared, and noise insulation is non-existent. There are heavy wooden doors slamming all over the place, the restaurant downstairs is open until 10pm with outdoor seating in the summer, and the bells from the cathedral next door begin at 7:45 am. During the long Danish winter, the rooms are rather dark. 

That said, as a history lover I found it to be a fun and memorable experience. 

This inn is also a great place for solo travellers, as the inn has rooms for one at a slightly lower price. 

People with mobility problems may have trouble getting up the steep wooden stairs.

I also recommend the restaurant downstairs, which somehow manages to be touristy but still very, very good. I like the fried fish platter with Danish rye bread, and in summer the restaurant also serves excellent homemade lemonade. Book a table during the busy tourist season if you want to eat there.


Fun experience for history lovers; great for single travellers

I reviewed this place when I reviewed the restaurant.  The building dates from 1600 and we had views of the wonderful 12th century cathedral out our windows.  The interior has been well maintained and kept clean, but it is a historic building, not a glitzed-up copy.  As their website says, with typical Danish humor: "No flat screen TV, shower and toilet in the corridor, but low ceilings and lots of creaky stairs".  I would also add that pulling a suitcase up the steep, narrow stair way would be difficult for some folks.  Still,, we loved it for its immense charm, and not just because it is 1/2 the price of other places in town.  We would go back instantly, and hope to.

Great location, and an "authentic experience"

Lovely old building with wonky rooms and paper thin walls as you would expect, sharing one bathroom of course not ideal but it all worked and you forgive it this charming little hotel. Dining rooms downstairs are absolutely gorgeous! Very friendly dervice as well, we enjoyed it very much in this beautiful little town!

This quirky lodging is right in the centre of Ribe. It has what its website says (shared toilet/ shower facilities) so expectations were met. However the quirky factor was exceeded, a tiny doorway from the restaurant leads up to a creeky, crooked landing. We loved it. A coffee machine or facilities in the hall/rooms would have made it perfect.
