Stayed 2 nights in this lovely hotel. When we arrived the hotel, Joyce (who co-ran the hotel) gave myself and my girlfriend a full tour of the house, which is beautifully decorated, and showed us to our room. The balcony overlooked the whole of windermere and the room itself was lovely. A basket full of things for breakfast each morning arrived outside our door and was also beautifully prepared.

Stayed here for a Birthday weekend break and it was great. Joyce was very helpful when we arrived and me and my partner were very pleased with the room we stayed in. Very spacious nice decor and we had everything we needed. Bathroom was lovely. Great view to wake up to in the morning. We enjoyed the breakfast with more than enough to set you up for the day. Bed was comfy. Overall pleasant experience and would happily stay again.

We had the most lovely stay at Dome house. We had the Loughrigg room and it was so bright, cosy and spacious. The swimming pool is amazing and the breakfast that is delivered to your door each morning is so thoughtful. The warm croissants and spreads are to die for! The living area upstairs is so cosy in the evenings especially with the fire on. 

Phil & Joyce are such lovely, welcoming hosts and you should make the most of their online recommendation list for restaurants as we had some really good meals recommended by them. The house is also only a 5 min walk to the main high street which is handy.

Will 100% be returning back here!! Plus they have the cutest dogs!

We spent a rainy weekend in Windemere and the Dome House was the perfect retreat. Joyce and Phil have really thought through every little detail to make a stay extra special and we had everything catered for we could possibly want and more. From the breakfast basket, local produce (the most amazing Cumbria chocolates!), to the house itself which is unique and beautiful. We loved spending time in the gorgeous lounge playing board games in the afternoon with the fire on, and in the evening we helped our self to a drink thanks to the honesty bar.

The Dome House feels like a quiet haven tucked in to the hillside but with the benefit of being centrally located (just a 10 minute walk down the hill to restaurants and shops in Bowness or if you go 10 minutes uphill you can walk up to Brant Fell and overlook the lake). If you are looking for a romantic/relaxing getaway this is the perfect spot!

An amazing 2 night stay at Dome House for a special birthday. The room ( Windermere View) was perfect. Lots of space, kitchen area, and amazing view of the lake!. 
The pool was a fantastic bonus and we used it both days. 
The Dome Room at the top of the house was open for guests as a lounge area - such a lovely, relaxing, cosy room with open beams which added to the feel of the room. The honesty bar, table football and popcorn maker were welcome additions.
Continental breakfast delivered to our room was delicious.
The hosts were very friendly and helpful
Would highly recommend for anyone looking for somewhere very special. 



Done House is beautiful and stunning accommodation in a beautiful part of the world. We couldn’t really ask for more. Our room was spacious,  very clean, and decorated in a gorgeous way. 
Joyce and Phil were always on hand for anything extra that we needed. And the continental breakfast was lovely.

Joyce and Phil were there to greet us on arrival, they make you feel extremely welcome and at home. It's like meeting old friends. 
The hotel exterior and interior are absolutely incredible. The socialising room is like something from a magazine, amazing views over the lakes and the bonus of an honesty bar. 
Perfect setting to relax, take in the views and enjoy a drink.
The rooms were spacious, spotless and really well designed to maximize comfort.
The breakfast was lovely, really well presented, fresh and tasty. 
We had nothing but positives from this hotel and we will definitely be returning. 


This place is in the most convenient location in Windermere, set just a short walk away from the main town. Had a warm welcome from Joyce and Phil and gave us a tour of the house. The house is so clean and decorated so beautifully with the most amazing view over Lake Windermere. Our room was spotless and great amenities. The little kitchen was handy! Great views over the lake from our balcony. They deliver a breakfast hamper each morning which was a great start to the day with museli, pastries and fruit. With the town only 5 minutes walk away there is plenty of options for food and drink plus with the location of the property it was a great base for exploring the Lake District. Thank you for a lovely stay and will be visiting again in the future!

We had a 2 night break in a room that lived up to and exceeded expectations. The facilities were excellent and Joyce very welcoming. A bit rainy whilst were there so the views over Windermere were a bit shrouded. Very peaceful location.

Wow what an amazing experience. We stayed as a couple celebrating our wedding anniversary and it has exceeded all expectations. The views are more than breathtaking and the building itself - you need to see it for yourself! Mitzy the dog is so friendly and it was nice to chat to the owners Joyce and Phil who were there if you needed them but didn’t intrude. Breakfast was more than ample (continental) and delivered to your door each morning which for us is perfect as it allowed us to have a good lie in without the pressure of being up too early and we can take our time! Whilst being away on holiday. The rooms are all spectacular, we stayed in Windermere View which as it describes has an amazing view! Amazing stay and one we will remember for a long time and we hope to see you again soon.

Amazing experience

The Dome House is a nice place to stay for a couple of days in the lakes. The location is ideal, within easy walking distance to the centre of Bowness with its lovely restaurants, bars and shops.  It is also in a very quiet location with a car park and no passing traffic.  There is a lovely view of the Lake from the property, and a lovely walk and vantage point to the rear, which we probably wouldn't have found if we weren't staying there..

We chose this instead of one of the large hotels, while we were on an extended break staying in large chain hotels, and this one suited us for a short stay as part of our trip.  It was clean and comfortable.  There wasn't much storage and hanging wardrobe space in the room for our luggage and there were no hooks to hang our coats etc.  We would have found this a problem if we were staying for a longer period of time. 

The pool was nice, and very quiet.  The upstairs lounge was nice and colourful, with lots of seating and a fire which would be nice when lit in winter.  The very narrow  stairs up to this level could be a problem for some people.  It had a kitchen area and bar where you could help yourself and pay for your drinks by card.  Again, a nice spot, and quiet as there aren't many guests staying at one time.

Continental breakfast was very nice, but if staying for longer than a couple of days, we would have been looking for more variety, something hot or at least eggs or something like that. The produce was fresh and tasty, and the breakfast tray is left on the floor outside the door each morning.  Tea and coffee was available in the room for you to make your own, and there is a fridge, small dishwasher and coffee machine. 

We would have preferred to have someone come to change our used towels  without having to ask for this, as the heated towel rail wasn't warm and our towels couldn't dry, but there were separate towels for use at the pool room that could be taken if needed.

All in all, we had a nice stay.  Being a relatively expensive 5 star establishment, we would have preferred a bit more service and choice for the price we paid in some respects, but we enjoyed our stay nevertheless.

Just returned from 5 nights at the Dome House, we stayed in the 2 bed apartment and visited with family, excellent private space, spacious and everything you need. We used the pool a couple of times which was great, not something you usually get.  Phil and Joyce fabulously friendly, we would definitely recommend and will be visiting again. We never used the car, we used the buses to get around, along with walking, the walk from Grasmere to Ambleside is lovely along by the lake, the trip up to Glenridding  is absolutely amazing, don’t drive you miss the views
